Although Jim evidently wanted his son to become the next Louis Armstrong by giving him a trumpet in his teenage years, Paul traded it in for a guitar and the rest is history. In short, Paul is best known for his work in The Beatles (1956-1970) as the bass player, and "The Cute One." Post-Beatles, Paul founded the group Wings with his wife, Linda and found success once again with hits like Maybe I'm Amazed and Silly Love Songs. Paul has also been a successful solo artist, most recently being nominated for several Grammys for his album Chaos and Creation In The Backyard (2005).

RELATIONSHIPS

Paul's most famous girlfriend was probably Jane Asher, whom he dated throughout the 1960's. A British actress, she interviewed the Beatles in 1963 (when she was seventeen years old) and subsequently began dating Paul. The pair became engaged in 1967, but broke up a year later. In 1969, Paul married Linda Eastman, a photographer and divorced mother. Initially, the press and public detested the marriage, but as the years passed, Paul and Linda's marriage became hailed as one of the greatest in history. Sadly, Linda died in April 1998 of breast cancer. The following year, Paul met model and activist Heather Mills, and married her in 2002. They are currently separated.

ACTIVISM

Paul has been an avid vegetarian since 1975 when he and Linda realized the connection between the veal on their plates and the lambs on their farm. The pair were active in PETA, and calling for an end to animal-testing. Linda herself popularized a meatless lifestyle by publishing a line of cookbooks and frozen foods. Paul has also known to be involved with Adopt-A-Minefield with his estranged wife, Heather. Most recently, he has campaigned for an end of the seal hunts in Canada.

CHILDREN

In total, Paul has five children. Heather is Linda's daughter from her first marriage; Paul adopted Heather when he and Linda married. She is a pottery designer in England. Mary, named after Paul's mother, was born shortly after Paul and Linda married and is currently a photographer and runs the picture department at MPL Communications. Stella is a famous fashion designer who continues the activism of her mother and father by refusing to design clothing that consists of fur or leather. James, an extremely private person, is a songwriter, musician, and sculptor. He has played on some of his father's most recent albums and has co-written tracks on both Flaming Pie and Driving Rain. Finally, Beatrice is the only child of Paul and Heather Mills. Currently, she is three years old and unemployed.
